Trancoso is not a fully developed tourist-resort. On one hand it keeps the place charming, but at times it complicates things for our visitors.

Most services however are encountered in Porto Seguro, but if you are not planning to go there, some things may best be taken care of upon arrival - before heading down to Trancoso.

CASH: Trancoso has no bank and only one ATM - located in a supermarket and not always functioning. It is supposed to accept at least VISA, Mastercard and Maestro, but it may be wise to bring the cash needed already from Porto Seguro, where you find ATMs at the Banco do Brasil in the center. Euros or dollars are easily changed in Trancoso and accepted for payments in most places. Because of daily limits on cashwithdrawals it may be wise to bring several cards. Cards are not widely accepted even at restaurants and at some pousadas. Check with your pousada before leaving home. Forget Travellers Cheques, unless you are on a long journey in need of the extra security.

CARS, buggies and motorbikes: Trancoso does have rentalcars, but there is a very limited amount. Motorbikes are easier, but you can not always get one from one hour to the other - or even from one day to the other. Beachbuggies can be rented in Porto Seguro and the rentalagents brings them to Trancoso for a small fee. You are not allowed to drive on the beaches. At certain times of year you need to make reservations for cars, buggies and motorbikes. Reservations can be made through your pousada and the agent will then meet you at the airport. You do need a valid drivers license and a creditcard. Be aware of insurance-options.

TRANSFER: All pousadas can arrange for you to be picked up at the airport or the busstation in Porto Seguro. In the evening and at night there is no public transportation.

LAUNDRY: All Trancoso Charme pousadas has laundry-service.

TELEFONE: Not all celularphones works in the Trancoso area. You can bring your own phone from back home and get a brazilian card to it for it to work as a brazilian cel-phone.

INTERNET/FAX: Few pousadas in Trancoso have internet-access in the rooms, but you can have emails sent to the pousada-adress and get prints. There are several internet-cafés in Trancoso. Some pousadas have FAX-service and so does the internet-cafés.

DOCTORS: Trancoso does not have an efficient public health system. There are a couple of good private doctors practicing, but it may take some time to get hold of them due to other obligations. For emergencies, there is a reasonable public hospital in Porto Seguro as well as private clinics.

HEALTH/VACCINATIONS: Trancoso does not have malaria, but if you go to the Amazon or other infected areas, you may choose to take malaria-pills. Check with your doctor at home - also if you need other vacinations.
